Fresh New Video - @DevIsHot feat Fabolous - Kiss My Lips

Pucker up! In the remix to Dev’s first single “Kiss My Lips” with rapper, Fabolous, she takes lip modeling to a new artform. Inspired by everything from watermelons to candy, Dev draws you in with her colorful lip imagery and sweet pop vocals. Super creative…not to mention, salacious!

Dev is kicking off the release of her album, “The Night The Sun Came Up,” on March 27. She’s also scheduled to promote this album on a 23-stop U.S. tour with Outasight and Wynter Gordon. Dates of shows can be found here: http://www.itsthecataracs.com/devs-the-night-the-sun-came-up-album-release-tour-dates-announced/

FRESH NEW MIXTAPE - @MiguelUnlimited - Art Dealer Chic Vol. 1

R&B crooner Miguel just dropped the 1st volume of his set of 3 mixtapes set to roll out by year’s end, and it’s nothing short of pure sexiness. In his standout EP, Miguel delivers 3 sultry jams that are must-adds to your “sextape playlist.”

The first track “Adorn” is my personal favorite, since it builds upon the same type of R&B chemistry that worked so well in his first single, “Sure Thing.” And let’s be honest, if Miguel was personally serenading you this song, your panties would drop in an instant. Fact. “That I Do (FTRMX)” is a gritty, funky tune channelling the soulful freakiness that once upon a time, was only aroused in songs by an artist formerly known as Prince. Instantly from the jump, Miguel sings, “I step up to the plate like Sammy Sosa, Baby I can’t wait to get to know ya, Touching every base on my way, Till we reach my place and we’re all alone.” I mean, Damn. ”Gravity” is more the typical “indie R&B” sound that Miguel is known for. The lyrics are straight poetry: “Lady, I’m certain that I dreamt you, Overnight suspense is leaving me defenseless, All these late nights, lost in my emotion, Searching for devotion, Someone I can laugh with out loud, and love amidst the empty space of my heart, I could leave with no doubt, I feel invincible when we create this art.” Can we say swoon?

FRESH NEW VIDEO - Jennifer Hudson feat. Ne-Yo & Rick Ross - “Think Like A Man”

What do you get when you mix J-Hud and Ne-Yo and sprinkle a little Ricky Rozay on top? Magic. In this R&B theme to the new film adaptation of the best-selling book “Act Like A Woman, Think Like A Man” by Steve Harvey, Jennifer Hudson promotes you can be a sexy, working woman who can still call the shots like a man. Being a fan of the book myself, this song encapsulates a great deal of themes in the novel. Not to mention, Jennifer Hudson is looking her finest. Comfortable enough to dance even!

RIP Whitney Houston - You will be missed. This post is dedicated to her life, love, and talent. My favorite Whitney Houston song of all time!

FRESH NEW VIDEO: Jay-Z & Kanye - N*ggas in Paris

Ball so hard! Just when you thought the song had reached it’s peak, Jay and Kanye decided to drop the official video for arguably the hottest song off of their record-breaking album, Watch The Throne. I was privileged enough to attend this concert in NY last year and watching them perform the song 3 times during the encore was enough (doesn’t sound as bad when you compare them doing it 7x in some cities!!!). Now everyone can “go gorillas” for the video that commemorates the experience of them performing it live. “Paris” draws upon sick lighting effects and and powerful images of the Illuminati, France, evil tigers, an audience of loyal, cra(z)y fans, hot women, and oh yeah, Will Ferrell even makes a cameo with that infamous Blades of Glory line that “gets the people going!” Never mind the fact that it looks like you’re viewing the video through a kaleidoscope, the visuals are epic, no matter how you slice them. Proof that this song is not losing its momentum just yet. And why should it?!? Jay and Ye could’ve filmed this vide in the sewage gutter next to rats and poison and fungi, and it would somehow still be cool. Excuse me…I meant that sh*t would’ve been cray!

Fresh New Music @karminmusic - “Broken Hearted”

Cheerio! It’s been a while, but Fresh Maven is back, and with the newest single by everyone’s favorite YouTube sensation, Karmin Music. The swag pop duo comprised of engaged couple Amy and Nick, whose cover of Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now” put them on the map last year, have soared to new heights with their latest, “Broken Hearted.” Amy, of course, adds her signature MC skills on this infectious tune a la Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night.” The single is a followup to their debut single, “Crash Your Party,” released last October.

Most catchy line? “Business in the front, party in the back, baby, I was wrong, was the outfit really wack?” Got ‘em!

FYI - Look for Karmin to perform this song along with another surprise track on their first featured performance on SNL when Zooey Deschanel hosts during Valentines Day weekend!

FRESH NEW VIDEO: @Wale feat @MiguelUnlimited - “Lotus Flower Bomb”

Undoubtedly one of the standout tracks of his latest release, “Ambition,” Wale collabs with R&B crooner, Miguel, in one of the sexiest songs to come along in a long time. This latest video offering from Wale is one of the more down tempo, almost unexpected songs from his album, where he and Miguel basically “teach you all the sounds of love.” If you haven’t peeped Wale’s new album yet, better get on it, because it’s one of the highlights of the year in my opinion. This track is definitely my favorite, mainly because I’m a huge fan of both artists and Miguel just nails that hook every time. Be prepared to swoon.

FRESH NEW VIDEO: @chromeo feat @solangeknowles - “When The Night Falls”

The Canadian electrofunk duo, Chromeo, take the stage with Miss Solange Knowles for a live performance on Jimmy Fallon that can only be described in one word: magical! I know it’s a few days old, but it was too brilliant not to share! Anyone else thinks they need to collaborate more often? Yes, please!

FEATURED ARTIST - Icona Pop: “Nights Like This”

With the release of their latest video to the title track of their debut EP, “Nights Like This,” Icona Pop, a Swedish indie pop duo comprised of Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt, is poised for breakthrough in American mainstream. Old school Super Mario fans rejoice, as this track nostalgically samples familiar video game sound effects while blending it with fierce, infectious lyrics. Most of Icona Pop’s tracks present synth pop works of art, and “Nights Like This” is the hipster anthem of them all.

In the video for “Nights Like This,” it ties in elements of a Thelma & Louise meets Bonnie & Clyde devil-may-care affair.  Starting off, it’s the perfect song to cruise to, and cruising they do in a stylish, robin egg blue classic Ford T-Bird. Then around 1:20, random images of the pair devouring a taco salad appear in a random restaurant pit stop before they continue their road trip. When their car breaks down, a good Samaritan stops to help them out. Or one would think. Catch the end of the twisted video to see what happens.

With their fashion-forward rebellious style and the release of their already raved EP, Nights Like This, as well as a couple of promotional mixes under the ambitious French fashion/electronic music label, Kitsune, Icona Pop seems to already be in good company. You may or may not recognize them from their catchy sample on Chiddy Bang’s “Mind Your Manners” released this year. No stranger to being opposite of the norm, Icona Pop’s strongest characteristic is their ability to successfully combine downcast, lascivious lyrics with upbeat, edgy melodies. Now with this video and the absence of electropop geniuses of La Roux (who is currently working on their second studio album), Icona Pop is in the primest time of making a huge splash in the US.

Preview the entire “Nights Like This” EP below. The whole debut is brilliant and definitely worth a listen. While “Manners” speaks for itself, “Sun Goes Down” feat. The Knocks (who, coincidentally, has also been sampled by Chiddy Bang) proves to be dark, yet valiant. And if “Lovers to Friends” doesn’t have you hooked on Icona Pop, then I don’t know what will. Unafraid of taking risks, I expect nothing but big things from Icona Pop in the future and you should too.

FEATURED ARTIST SPOTLIGHT - Marcus Canty

After blowing away the judges during his first audition of Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish” for the Fox TV show, X-Factor, 20-year-old Marcus Canty was already made comparable to the “next Bobby Brown” by L.A. Reid. But tonight’s judges house performance literally blew the rest of the competition out of the water. Performing a flawless rendition of the R&B classic, “All My Life,” made popular by K-Ci & Jojo circa 1998 (wow, has it really been that long since that song came out?), Marcus Canty proved why he deserves to win that 5 mil. In this clip, everything from his stage presence to his superb vocal range to even his arrangement of the song was definitely on point for the entire performance. He even made Rihanna swoon, and I’m sure that’s no easy task. Better be prepared America…pretty soon, Marcus Canty will soon be a household name!

If you like what you saw above and happened to miss his first audition, check it out HERE. I am definitely “Team Marcus Canty” from here on out….kid’s got major talent!!!
